Health and Safety
Your child's safety is our first responsibility
Everything we do at Safe n Sound Clarkson is built on a foundation of genuine safety. Our health and safety practices are not a checklist — they are a daily commitment embedded in the way we supervise children, manage our environment and respond to every situation with care.
As a small, family-run centre, we have a practical advantage: our educators know every child and every detail that matters. That familiarity is itself a safety measure.
Our centre operates in full compliance with the Education and Care Services National Law, National Quality Standards and all relevant Western Australian regulatory requirements.
Supervision and security
Active supervision is one of the most important things we do every day. Our educators are trained to maintain full awareness across all indoor and outdoor environments — positioned thoughtfully, anticipating needs and responding quickly.
Children are never unsupervised. Consistent ratios are maintained throughout the day, with our Kindy program operating at a reduced 1:8 ratio. Regular headcounts occur at every transition, and a clear sign-in and sign-out process is followed for every child, every day.
The centre operates secure access systems to ensure only authorised individuals can enter. Only adults listed on your child's enrolment record are authorised to collect them, and photo identification may be requested where an educator does not recognise the person collecting.
If there are custody arrangements or intervention orders relevant to your child, we ask families to inform us in writing so we can ensure the right protections are in place.
Health, illness and medical needs
We follow the exclusion guidelines set out in Staying Healthy — the national framework for preventing infectious diseases in early childhood settings. Children who are unwell are asked to remain at home until they meet the relevant return criteria, and families are asked to notify us as early as possible on any day their child will not be attending.
Where a child has a known allergy, medical condition or health management need, an individual health support plan is developed in partnership with their family. All educators hold current first aid qualifications including anaphylaxis and asthma management training. Any medication administered at the centre requires a completed authority form and is recorded and reported to families the same day.
We are a sun safe centre. Broad-brimmed hats are required for outdoor play and SPF 50+ sunscreen is applied before children go outside.
Child protection and your peace of mind
Safe n Sound Clarkson is committed to the safety and protection of every child in our care. All educators hold a current Working With Children Check and are trained in child protection awareness and mandatory reporting responsibilities.
We maintain transparent communication with families about anything that happens during the day. In the event of an incident or injury, families are notified promptly and a written record is completed and retained in line with regulatory requirements.
Our policies and procedures are reviewed regularly and are available to families at any time. If you have questions about any aspect of our health and safety practices, we welcome the conversation.
